Devendra Fadnavis asks government officials to deliver
Fadnavis takes cue from PM Modi, demands that officials perform.
Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting on Thursday of all department secretaries questioning their performance and setting certain targets for them. The CM even warned them to either perform or invite action.
A day after Mr Modi pulled up officers for not performing, the Maharashtra CM also reviewed works done by the department secretaries, an official from the CMO said on condition of anonymity. The meeting held at the government guesthouse Sahyadri Thursday morning was attended by the secretaries heading various departments in Mantralaya. “The CM also told them review their performance periodically and check if the targets given to them are fulfilled in stipulated time period,” the official added.
A few targets were also given to the departments whose performance will enhance the government’s image. “The Industries department was told to simplify 17 laws in order to have business-friendly atmosphere in the state. This was an effort towards Make In Maharashtra initiative under which the government is trying to invite more industries to the state,” the official added.
The government made another important announcement — to build 19 lakhs homes till 2022. The CM told the officials of the housing department to construct one lakh houses in this year. The target is to be completed by December 2016 by the department.
The Urban Development department has already been given target of revenue collection. But as a part of the government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission, the CM has asked the department to make the state open-defecation-free this year, the official added.
On Wednesday, the PM took a tough stand against government officials for not performing and paying heed to complaints. He reportedly said to sack such officers based on their performance. Though the Maharashtra CM has not gone to that extent, he has warned officials that lack of performance would make transfers inevitable, the official from the CMO said.
