Desilting scam: 4 BMC officials served notice
Taking serious note of Bombay high court’s ruling to stay BMC’s decision to blacklist contractors in the desilting scam, the civic body has issued show cause notices to four of its officials. They did not present the civic body’s viewpoint properly in the court on this issue, said civic officials. The BMC has blacklisted all the 32 contractors for irregularities found in the probe of pre-monsoon desilting works. However, two contractors had challenged the move in the court, which stayed the civic body’s decision saying that it did not give opportunity to contractors to explain their side.
Municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta has been reportedly very livid about the entire issue. Accordingly, show cause notice has been sent to Vaibhav Borkar, assistant engineer, Anil Jadhav, executive engineer of monitoring and registration department and Vinod Mahadik, assistant law officer and Aruna Sawala, deputy law officer of the legal department. “The contractors were given a chance to explain their side during the inquiry, but they failed to do so. Hence, it was not required to hear them while blacklisting. The court should have been informed about this,” said a senior civic official.
