Dates extended for FYJC admission

The deputy director of educations (DYDE) office has extended the period for minority, in-house and management quota admissions in the soon-to-start FYJC online admission process.

The deputy director of educations (DYDE) office has extended the period for minority, in-house and management quota admissions in the soon-to-start FYJC online admission process. According to officials, the decision was taken after junior colleges run by minority managements had apprised the deputy director’s office of the shortage of time they had for conducting admissions.

According to the vice-principal of a minority junior college in western suburbs, admissions to minority, in-house and management quota started after June 15 after the students got their SSC mark sheets. However, as the colleges had only five days to conduct admissions to the quota seats, most colleges had approached the DYDE office and requested for extension of a couple of days.

The DYDE office obliged and said that admissions to the quota seats would continue along with the FYJC online admissions. “Minority institutions have not been asked to surrender the vacant seats as the option has been included in the FYJC online admission form too. Thus, students who wish to secure admission to a minority institution will be able to do so through the online process too,” said B.B. Chavan, acting deputy director.

Meanwhile, the first master merit list was declared on June 20 and the first merit list was declared on June 21. According to statistics released by the DYDE, around 201 lakh students were allotted seats in the entire Mumbai region. Students have to confirm their admissions by paying fees by June 23. The DYDE will release the second merit list on June 24 and the third list will be out by June 29.

According to sources in the school education department, the online admission process aims to curb problems for students as well as ensure that colleges do not misuse the minority quota seats. While this year the colleges have been allowed to conduct admissions to various quota seats on their own through the offline mode, the same could be discontinued from next year and admissions to minority quota will also be done through the online process.
