Dadar school gets BMC notice

The BMC’s education department has issued a show cause notice to Shardashram School at Dadar after parents alleged that the school had hiked the fees indiscriminately from '21,000 to '52,000 per month and also refused promotion to 90 students from senior KG to class I on the pretext of accommodating students under 25 per cent reservation quota of the Right to Education Act. In lieu of this, the BMC’s education department has also asked the school to suspend its admission process.

“Last week we received a letter from the school asking us to seek admission for our child to some other school. On inquiring with the school we were told that as they have to reserve 25 per cent seats for the RTE quota they had to refuse promotion to almost half the students,” said a parent.

BMC’s newly-appointed education committee chairman Hemangi Worli confirmed that it had received the parents complaint and held a hearing of the aggrieved parents and the school authorities. “As no representative from the school turned up we have issued a show cause notice to the school,” he said.
