Dadar GRP arrest 2 for assaulting men on train
The Dadar government railway police (GRP) has traced and arrested two persons who were, in a video, seen assaulting a couple of alleged thieves after stripping them. The video of the assault had gone viral on WhatsApp, after which news channels picked it up and the GRP took cognisance of it.
GRP commissioner Madhukar Pandey said, “It was a difficult case to crack, as we did not have three crucial pillars of the FIR: The time, the place and the complainant’s identity. But, our men managed to crack it in five days.”
According to the Dadar GRP, the arrested accused have been identified as Harrish Shaikh (24) and Nazeem Shaikh (22). While Harish is a resident of Mumbra, Nazeem is from Kalwa. Both are fishermen by profession.
On Friday they were produced before a magistrate’s court and remanded to judicial custody. They then received bail of Rs 15,000.
It has been learnt that the incident occurred last year in November.
The accused and the victims were travelling in a train in the early hours when the victims allegedly tried to steal a cellphone.
This enraged the accused who stripped them and started beating them up at Parel railway station.
The GRP then started scrutinising the video and saw the pole’s signs, which helped them to zero down on Parel railway station. They then took screengrabs of the accused and circulated them to their informers in Parel-Dadar area. Fortunately the two accused were recognised. They had even switched off their cellphones.
Acting on a tip off, the duo was placed under arrest.
