The officials of Samta Nagar police station got the shock of their life when a man accused of kidnapping a minor, took advantage of the absence of officials — who had gone to answer nature’s call — ran away from the police station along with the chair to which he was handcuffed.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning when the police officers were questioning accused Riyaz Sheikh (26) for kidnapping a 17-year-old girl.

Sheikh resides at Mira Road, and police teams had tried searching for him there but in vain. According to an officer at the Samta Nagar police station, Sheikh was questioned on Saturday morning. However, during the proceedings, two officials who were present in the police station went to the rest room.

Seeing no one in the corridor, Sheikh, who was handcuffed to a chair, escaped from the police along with it. According to the sources, Sheikh was in a relationship with the minor girl whom he had allegedly kidnapped and they had both run away from Mumbai and started living in another city as a married couple.

The girl’s parents filed a complaint at the Samta Nagar police station, after which the police registered a case against Sheikh under Section 363 (Punishment for kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code.
