Ex-soldier and farmer Krishna Baburao Shinde (40) consumed poison in the fields in Waghere village in Igatpuri tehsil. He was discovered by other farmers, who rushed him to the hospital, where he died late on Friday night. Sources said that Shinde had taken various loans for digging a well and for his milk business. The crops failed due to unseasonal rains and he was frustrated, his family said. He is survived by his wife, two sons, parents, brother and sisters

In another incident, Sunil Jagannath Desale (33) from Sherul village in Malegaon tehsil hung himself to a tree in his fields. He had taken a loan of Rs 4,00,000 in 2011 to start a poultry farm. A year and a half ago, the farm was destroyed in hailstorms and heavy rains. With the interest accumulated, he had to pay off Rs 7,00,000, which was not possible, according to his family.

Desale was a recent widower, his wife Pratibha had committed suicide a month and half ago. He is survived by two sons — one in class 2 and the other in class 4, his parents and a younger brother. His parents are aged and cannot work in the fields.

On Tuesday, three bankrupt farmers had committed suicide in Malegaon. They were identified as Ganesh Himmat Vachhav (33) from Sonaj, Mahesh Bansilal Sonawane (33) from Padalde and Praveen Bhatu Magar (48) of Zodge.
