CR sees massive disruption, 25 trains cancelled
The Central Railway (CR) saw massive disruptions on Saturday with 25 trains being cancelled and over 100 trains being delayed after a local train was stuck between Neral and Vangani, blocking other trains.
The local train was stuck between Neral and Vangani from 2.51 am to 5.57 am due to which trains parked at Karjat for the night could not be removed. “ The delay was for 15 minutes once the trains began to run in the morning,” said CR public relations officer A.K. Singh.
The particular train had stalled as its brakes had begun to emit smoke, technically known as break binding. An official on the condition of anonymity said that around 100 trains were delayed from an hour to 20 minutes. “We had a situation where around 100 trains were delayed as we were unable to remove rakes from Karjat where the trains are parked,” said the official.
Commuters like Ashok Kamble (45) who wanted to travel from Kalwa to Dadar to meet his family said that he was unable to get a train for over half-an-hour. “I was stuck from around 8.15 am to 8.45 am as a result of the problem, the train was so crowded that I was standing at the door throughout the journey,” he said.
The CR has been struggling with similar failures in far off suburbs. “The trains are getting stuck for some reason and we think that maybe the motors of these trains might need rework or maintenance,” added the official.
