The Central Railway (CR) has already dolled up its Direct Current (DC) rake that will finally be placed in is proposed museum near PD’Mello Road. This has primarily been proposed to honour the Maratha warrior Shivaji Raje Bhosale.

The Harbour line has the last running DC train in the country, which runs on 1,500 volts. The line will be converted to Alternate Current’s (AC) 25,000 volt on the night of April 9/ April 10 morning. The accompanying picture shows the DC rake that will be shifted into this museum and is currently being housed at Kurla carshed, the same place where the air-conditioned local has been kept as well.

Officials said this is a part of the CR’s plan to not let important pieces of railway history in the city fall through the cracks. “The museum is part of the bigger picture whereby the important events, trains, engines etc that are a part of the history of the city’s railway journey,” said the official. The CR plans to run the last train from Kurla to CST at 11.30 pm. As a result the last local for Panvel from CST on Saturday night will be at 10.29 pm and CST to Vashi will depart at 11.20 pm.
