CP Datta Padsalgikar takes charge

The new Mumbai police commissioner, additional director general (ADG) Datta Padsalgikar (57) took over the charge on Sunday from director general Ahmad Javed and spoke to the press about his thoughts on the boiling issue of terrorism and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). He said the anti-terror cells at the police station-level are going a good job and spoke on how the family and teachers of youths being radicalised should help the police. He also complimented the leaders of the Muslim community for their undying efforts on spreading awareness against the menace of the ISIS.
Mr Padsalgikar was born on August 26, 1958 and holds an MA degree. He started his career in 1982. He has served in Nagpur rural, Karad in Satara and Nashik. From 1995 to 1998, he served as DCP in south Mumbai, EOW and crime branch. From 1998 to 2010, he was given a central posting serving in Mumbai.
From 2010 to 2014, he served as Indian Ambassador in Washington, USA. He served in the IB from 2014 to 2016 in Delhi. Mr Padsalgikar started by asking the name and organisation of each of the 30 odd journalists in his office at the Mumbai Police Headquarters in Crawford market. In his first interaction, replying to the question over on youths being radicalised by the ISIS online, he said, “Pressure needs to come on these youths from their peers, family, friends, teachers and professors. Their support is much required to ensure their children are not radicalised online.”
