The special women’s court on Monday reprimanded the public prosecutor in Jiah Khan’s death case while granting him time to study the chargesheet, which was filed a month ago and also told him that the court would hear arguments on framing of charges on next hearing day.
The CBI in its chargesheet has charged actor Sooraj Pancholi of abetting model-actress Jiah Khan in committing suicide. When the matter came up for hearing on Monday before special judge A.S. Shende the special public prosecutor Dinesh Tiwari sought time to study the chargesheet. On this the judge expressed displeasure and asked him to give a written application seeking time.
The judge said that this way the advocate is prolonging the case. “Already more than one month was given so that you come to court prepared and you still seek adjournment ” She said that this is not the way prosecution seeks adjournment. “How long will you prolong (the trial),” she asked further.
Later, on receiving written the application, the court granted time to the prosecution and posted the matter for arguments on framing of charges on Sooraj on February 12.
The actor has denied driving Jiah to commit suicide and has claimed that the alleged notes were not suicide notes written by the deceased. He pointed out that Jiah neither signed the note nor was he named in them.
The police, however, has relied upon the handwriting expert’s report to prove that the suicide note was written by Jiah. The CBI has alleged that the three-page note seized by Mumbai police on June 10, 2013 was written by Jiah and narrated her physical abuse and mental and physical torture allegedly experienced at the hands of Sooraj which led to her suicide. The agency has also claimed that on June 3, 2013, when Jiah was found hanging at her residence, she had left Sooraj's house in morning where they had been staying for two days. The CBI claimed that the evidence incriminates Sooraj.
