Court rejects Khanna bail in Sheena Bora case

A special CBI court on Friday rejected the bail application filed by Sanjeev Khanna, former husband of Indrani Mukerjea and co-accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. The judge said the contentions raised by Khanna would be decided after the trial because there is a prima facie case against him for trial.
Khanna, in his bail application filed through his lawyers Hrishikesh Mundergi and Shreyansh Mithare, had said he was not present when Sheena was strangled to death in a car on April 24, 2012.
Mundergi had contended that the CBI’s case is that Indrani had picked up her daughter at around 6.30 pm from Bandra before she was murdered. However, according to his lawyers Khanna had reached a Mumbai hotel, where he was to stay, at 6.04 pm and it was not possible for him to reach the spot (where Indrani and Sheena were meeting) in such a short time.
The applicant’s lawyer had further argued that while the CBI had claimed that Khanna was at Indrani’s house at Marlow Bungalow at Worli, around the same time he was ordering a meal at his hotel. To prove this claim, according to lawyer, the waiter who served Khanna in his room had taken his signature on the bill.
It was also claimed that there was no “meeting of minds” between Khanna and Indrani to hatch the conspiracy to kill Sheena. And a key witness was able to identify Khanna because his photo was published all over the media.
The CBI, however, opposed Khanna’s bail plea saying he was part of the conspiracy and key accused Indrani’s former driver (who turned approver) has named Khanna in his confessional statement.
