Court defers Indrani’s bail plea, order expected today

A special CBI court on Thursday deferred passing order on the bail application filed by Indrani Mukerjea in the sensational murder case of her daughter Sheena Bora.

A special CBI court on Thursday deferred passing order on the bail application filed by Indrani Mukerjea in the sensational murder case of her daughter Sheena Bora.

Indrani, through her lawyers Mahesh Jethmalani and Gunjan Mangala has moved bail application before the special judge H.S. Mahajan, saying she is facing serious health issues and need to be released on bail for proper medical treatment.

The CBI on the other hand has opposed her bail application saying that as per doctor’s reports her health is improving and she is responsible for her weight loss because she continuously walks around in her prison cell. According to the CBI, Indrani is getting all the required treatment and proper food and need not be released on bail.

The judge had said he would decide this application by March 31, but on Thursday he said he would pronounce order on bail application on Friday.

In the meantime, the court also allowed CBI’s application seeking permission to interrogate Indrani’s former driver Shyawar Rai for two days in jail.

Advocate Jethmalani on behalf of Indrani requested the court to provide them a copy of Rai’s statement recorded under section 164 of CrPC and which could be used as evidence in the case. Though the CBI said that this application is already rejected, advocate Jethmalani told the court that they did not press for this, which is why it was not decided. Following this, the court asked them to file an application again in this regard and it would be decided on the next date.
