Nine policemen from the Zone 11 office sustained minor injuries after the van in which they were travelling was allegedly hit by a vehicle at Uttan in Bhayander (west) on Saturday morning.

A police official informed The Asian Age that all the injured policemen were taken to Apex Hospital, a local hospital in Borivali, where they are being treated.

The policemen, who were returning in the van from their night duty, were from Bangur Nagar, Goregaon, Malad, Borivali, Malvani and Kandivali police stations.

According to the Uttan coastal police, the Delta van was returning from Manori Dargah in Borivali. As a religious festival is being celebrated in the area, these policemen were deployed for safety and security arrangements there. The vehicle, which was on its way to the station, had reached the Law Academy at Uttan when the alleged collision took place. After the incident, the van turned turtle and fell into a nearby pit. The policemen sustained injuries on their faces, hands and legs.

A senior official from zone 11, commenting on the incident, said, “The driver of our van lost control of the vehicle after it got hit from the back.”

Another source told this newspaper that near the law academy in Bhayander, the van was climbing up, and the driver applied the breaks but in vain, and it started running in reverse.
