Crime branch officials have arrested a person on Friday night for beating up a police officer at Sion Hospital on May 4 and then fleeing the spot.

Crime branch officials have arrested a person on Friday night for beating up a police officer at Sion Hospital on May 4 and then fleeing the spot. According to the police, the arrested accused Sushil Kumar (30) had come to the Sion Hospital to meet his friend Papa Nair (27). Nair had been arrested in connection with a murder and robbery case under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. Kumar was accompanied by Nair’s two sisters.

Nair had complained to the police about a neck injury. “A police team from Arthur Road Jail had brought him to Sion Hospital. Nair’s sisters and he wanted to meet him, but API Ajay Parmar, unit II of the local arms division of the Mumbai police, did not allow them to meet Nair.”

The trio then started arguing with him and then began beating him. Parmar immediately called the other officers and on 100 for help but by then the trio had fled the place.

The crime branch unit arrested Kumar from Dharavi based on his mobile location and information from sources.

The Sion police has registered a case against Nair’s sisters and Kumar under Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
