The Amboli police of Andheri area is on the lookout for unknown miscreants who set an auto rickshaw on fire in Andheri on Thursday night. According to police officials, the reason behind their actions is not known.

The incident took place immediately after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray asked his party men to burn the auto rickshaws of recipients of new permits and are from outside Maharashtra.

The Amboli police has registered an FIR in the case under Sections 435 (Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage to amount of Rs 100 or [in case of agricultural produce] Rs 10) and 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50) of the Indian Penal Code against unknown persons.

According to the police officials, identifying the men behind the incident is a difficult task for them as the area doesn’t have any CCTV surveillance, and the police does not have any clue as to their identity.

The incident took place in Andheri (west) at about 10.30 pm near the Andheri RTO. Police officials, speaking about the incident, said that at the time of the incident, the auto rickshaw was stationed in the parking area and its driver, Allaudin, who had taken the vehicle from some else on rent, had gone for a jaunt. Earlier, locals stated that five people had arrived at the spot in a car and suddenly flung petrol on the rickshaw and set it on fire. According to locals, they were allegedly shouting MNS slogans.
