Cops hunt for man who raped 5-year-old in Tulinj

A five-year-old girl was raped in the Tulinj on Wednesday evening by an unknown assailant.

A five-year-old girl was raped in the Tulinj on Wednesday evening by an unknown assailant. The local police is on the lookout for the offender and have rounded up repeat offenders in the area, said sources. The minor victim has been admitted in a hospital and her condition is critical, said a police official on condition of anonymity.

The crime occurred in the Santosh Bhawan area of Nallasopara (east), under the jurisdiction of the Tulinj police around 8 pm on Wednesday. According to sources from the police, at the time of the incident, the victim was playing outside her house alone while her mother was preparing dinner inside. The accused, apparently a youth aged between 20-25 years, used the opportunity to take the child to a remote place nearby and raped her after threatening to kill her. After the assault, the accused left victim at the spot and fled.

Covered with bloodstains, the child managed to find her way home around 9pm. After being asked how she hurt herself, the victim narrated the entire incident to her mother who then approached the police station and registered a complaint.

Later the victim was admitted in the municipal hospital in Vasai where she is still under observation. The Tulinj police has registered a complaint against an unknown man under the relevant sections of IPC for kidnapping, assault, threatening and rape. While the investigation in the case is underway, the police is trying to hunt down the accused. The preliminary inquiry has revealed that the accused often roams in the area on a bicycle. The girl had told her parents that she had seen the boy earlier as well. Based on the information, the police questioned the residents in the area and came to know that there indeed is a man aged between 20-25 years who often cycles past the area. The police is now trying to track the accused down, said sources.
