Keen to ensure the security of posh hotels in the city in the aftermath of the Paris terror attacks, the government has decided to provide extra security to the famous Taj and Trident hotels in the city, which were targets during the 26/11terror strikes. Local police in the city has also been asked to check the security arrangements at star hotels in their respective area, following which it will be determined whether they need security or not.

All suburban police stations have also been asked to stay in touch with elite hotels in their area, which are frequented by foreign tourists, and check the security arrangements there regularly.

The decisions were taken after a high-level meeting conducted on November 18 at the office of the Mumbai commissioner of police, in which all DCP-level officials were present.

In the meeting, senior officials also decided to conduct a security review after some time. According to sources in the department, as of now a decision has been taken to beef up security at the Taj and Trident hotels and once officials review the security situation some time later, they will decide whether to continue with the arrangement.

According to a senior official, a clear picture about the safety and possible security needs of other elite hotels in the city will emerge after the local police submit their reports.

During the 26/11 attack around 200 people were held hostage at the Taj hotel. The national security guards rescued 250 people from the Oberoi, 300 from the Taj and 60 people (members of 12 different families) from Nariman House. Two hotels, the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower and the Oberoi Trident, were among the four locations targeted. Six explosions were reported at the Taj hotel – one in the lobby, two in the elevators, three in the restaurant – and one at the Oberoi Trident. At the Taj Mahal, firefighters rescued 200 hostages from windows using ladders during the first night

Modus operandi of paris attack similar to that used in 26/11 On the evening of November 13, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks, consisting of mass shooting, suicide bombing and hostage-taking occurred in Paris. A total of 137 people died in the attacks, and more than 350 were injured. The Paris attacks were eerily reminiscent of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Many reports have suggested that the choice of weapons and modus operandi used in Paris were similar to those used in the 26/11 attacks.
