Just a railway ticket is what it took the Valiv police of Vasai to track down and arrest an accused within ten days of having allegedly committed murder. Sexual relations between the accused and the male victim, formed the motive behind the murder.
On January 21, an unidentifiable body was found near a petrol pump in Sativali area. However, during a search of the deceased, officials found a local train ticket from Mumbai central to Nallasopara. Upon checking CCTV footage of the two railway stations and records of missing persons, they came to know a missing complaint had been filed with Nagpada police station and the photo of the missing man was similar to the face of the deceased. The deceased was subsequently identified as Mashook Ali (25), a professional masseur.
Upon once again checking CCTV footage for suspicious persons, officials saw a person accompanying the deceased. Upon inquiry, the deceased’s father identified him as Javed Marediya (30), who works in a sweet shop. Later, officials nabbed Marediya from his house.
Preliminary inquiry revealed Marediya and Ali were in a physical relationship, and Ali had a few objectionable pictures of Marediya, which he was using to frequently blackmail the latter and demand money from him. This is why Marediya allegedly killed Ali. Marediya was arrested on January 30 and produced in court the next day. He was remanded him to police custody till February 4. Further investigation is underway.
