Nearly three weeks after a senior citizen was found murdered in her Matunga house, the police is still clueless about the murderer. Sources informed that recently a man wearing similar clothes as that of the murderer had visited the building but fled when the watchman probed the purpose of his visit.
On June 7, 78-year-old Manjula Vora was found dead in the kitchen of her house in Pranav Residency in Matunga. The unidentified assailant had slit her throat while her elder brother Ravilal Vora was in the dining area of the house. Ravilal (85) is wheelchair-bound and suffering from a mental disorder.
Dr Shaha, family doctor of the Voras, discovered the body.
According to the police, the doctor was visiting after Manjula had called him to come check Ravilal, who was complaining of leg pain. On the basis of the statement of the doctor, the police made a sketch of the murderer.
“The sketch showed the assailant having a head full of hair and wearing a white shirt with a bag in his hand and a cap. But the CCTV footage obtained from the building shows him with an obvious bald patch,” said an officer.
Following this discrepancy, officials inform that the doctor was also questioned.
“Initially he was also considered a suspect, but his answers and behaviour were all in place. He had indeed come to visit them after Manjula called, so we ruled him out,” the officer said.
Sources mentioned that the investigators are pursuing the angle of money lending. Manjula would allegedly lend money to people and the police is trying to trace all the people the victim had lent money to. Officials mentioned that Ravilal’s condition has been a setback.
“Though he was in the house during the incident, he doesn’t seem to comprehend anything. We might get a professional counsellor to help us talk to him,” said an officer.
