The Azad Maidan police on Saturday traced and arrested a youth in his early 20s for allegedly molesting and passing obscene comments at a young woman last month, while she was walking inside the subway near Metro theatre in the afternoon in South Mumbai. The woman is a student of a college in South Mumbai. The police refused to divulge how it traced the accused, but said the detailed description provided by the complainant contributed greatly.

According to the Azad Maidan police, the alleged accused, identified as Mohamad Sajel Mohamad Salim Hussain, is a resident of Vithalwadi. The complainant is a resident of Cuffe Parade and is pursuing a degree from a top college in south Mumbai. The incident occurred on January 30, when the lady complainant was on her way to CST railway station.

She took the Metro subway Hussain allegedly stalked her. Around 12.45 pm, Hussain allegedly started walking behind her and is said to have inappropriately touched her from behind. A heated argument ensued and the complainant pushed him away and rushed away from the spot. There are no CCTV cameras in the subway.

Hussain is also said to have passed an obscene comment when she confronted him. The complainant, however, didn’t approach the police. She confided about the incident with her friends who advised her to register a complaint as ignoring it would embolden the accused. The complainant then approached the Azad Maidan police station, which promptly registered a FIR, said investigating officer, PSI Rahul Mokate.
