Cops arrest hoax caller in Kandivali
The police crime branch unit II has arrested an alleged hoax caller on Saturday who called up the police control room on the emergency number 100 and lied that a bomb had been planted in a theatre in Kandivali (west) Thursday night. According to officials, the accused, identified as Mohammad Raja Majhar Shaikh (28), made the call under the influence of alcohol. A mechanic by profession, he was nabbed from Ganesh chowk in Kandivali (west).
Shaikh had gone to watch a Bhojpuri movie with his friends in Mayur cinema and had made the call at 11.15 pm. Soon after receiving the call, the information was relayed to the crime branch and a special team started working on it.
Shaikh was nabbed on technical evidence. Deputy commissioner of police, crime, Mohankumar Dahikar said, “He has been handed over to the Azad Maidan police station. An FIR has been registered against him under Section 505(2) of the IPC.”
Recently, a BMC worker had called the police control room and lied that a couple of bombs had been planted in two civic hospitals. He was later traced and arrested.
