Cops arrest 3 men for peddling mephedrone

The anti-narcotics cell has arrested three people for allegedly possessing and peddling the highly dangerous drug mephedrone.

The anti-narcotics cell has arrested three people for allegedly possessing and peddling the highly dangerous drug mephedrone.

The Bandra unit of the ANC received a tip about drug peddlers coming to Vikhroli area with a consignment of Mephedrone. They then laid a trap and caught three people who had in their possession the said drug. “They had come to the spot in a four--wheeler and we seized nearly 1,900 grams of mephedrone from them. They seized drug is worth about '38 lakh in total,” said an officer.

The arrested accused have been identified as Ramzan Lokhandwala alias Sayed (28), a resident of Dongri, Asif Khan (30), a resident of Powai and a woman Shahanaz Galiyara (31), a resident of Powai. They were all arrested from Tagore Nagar junction in GR Jolly Marg of Vikroli (east).

A police officer said that the accused were regular consumers of the drug and would also sell it to students and youngsters in the area. They would peddle massive amounts of mephedrone and also allegedly supply it to other local dealers. The police hope to be able to nab other dealers following this arrest.

Mephedrone, known as a party drug, makes consumers feel highly energetic and also gives them an adrenaline kick that can last for hours. The drug, available in powder form, can be inhaled through a pipe or even mixed with tobacco products or paan.
