A police official working in Mumbai was left perturbed after it was found that a fake letter had been circulated on social media, where the said official had asked for a transfer to Gadchiroli — a Naxal infested area.
A complaint has been registered with the cyber crime cell as the letter had been signed in his name. The cyber crime cell officer said the department had started an investigation as to who had circulated the letter. The officer’s identity has also been withheld by the police, as it could be embarrassing for him.
A few days ago, the cyber crime cell got a compliant from the official informing it that a letter had been circulated on the social media with his name and signature.
The letter that was circulated on the social media stated that the officer wanted to do something for his nation, as he was bored with his service so far. Following the letter that went viral he was harassed by phone calls enquiring if the letter was true.
The letter has mentioned that the said officer who has been working in Mumbai police for the past 15 years had not got a chance to do something adventurous or anything for the nation. So, if he could get a transfer to Gadchiroli, then he would be able to do something for the nation. He would be able to fight the Naxals which would give him satisfaction, the letter stated.
DCP cyber crime cell Raj Kumar said, “The said police officer got so many calls after the letter went viral that he decided to complain to the cyber crime cell. He came to us and we have taken down his complaint. We are searching for the person who played this prank.”
