The University of Mumbai has enlisted the help of former Controller of Examination (CoE) Vilas Shinde to help expedite the declaration of results of the 423 exams it had conducted in April/May, 2015. Sources in the university are surprised at the move as the incumbent had been unceremoniously ousted from the post of CoE during the tenure of the previous vice-chancellor Dr Rajan Welukar after he was unable to curb the spate of goof-ups and delays in declaration of results. University officials however maintained that Mr Shinde’s help would be limited till all the results of the exams conducted by the university are declared.
According to statistics released by the university, it had conducted 423 exams in the arts, science, commerce, law and technology faculties in the first half of 2016 and had declared 80 results within the stipulated 45 days of the exams being conducted. The remaining results it said were under progress and the TYBCom and TYBA results would be declared by June 10.
However, former senate members have aired apprehensions on the effectiveness of the move. “Mr Shinde was asked to vacate the post as he was unable to ensure that the results were declared on time, though that was not the main reason for his ouster. There were other reasons and the university administration should have taken that into consideration before asking him to help out,” said a former senate member.
Commenting on the matter, Dr M.A. Khan, registrar, MU, said, “Mr Shinde was cleared of all allegations and hence there was nothing wrong in enlisting his help. He will help Mr Wasave to streamline the process and ensure exam process for the first half is completed as soon as possible.”
