A conman, claiming to be joint secretary Anurag Jain from the Prime Minister’s Office, contacted the Bank of Baroda CEO seeking favours for certain audit firms and also for blacklisting some firms which are related to the sensational coal scam case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has received a complaint in this respect from the PMO office and is looking into the matter.

A highly placed source said that the accused, who has not been identified, wrote a few emails to P.S. Jayakumar, the MD and CEO of Bank of Baroda, to blacklist as many as five private firms. Anurag Jain is a 1989 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre. He had been working as joint secretary in the department of financial services under the finance ministry. In December last year, he was appointed as joint secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office. The source said that the accused had been trying to contact Mr Jayakumar for the past few months.

In his emails, he said that the firms were involved in wrongful certification and verification work for companies which are involved in the coal scam. He urged Mr Jayakumar to blacklist the firms mentioned by him in his emails,” the source said.
