Though the Congress legislative party meeting was organised to discuss issues to be raised in the upcoming budget session, the meeting was concentrated on supporting former chief minister Ashok Chavan over the nod given by state government to the CBI to prosecute him in the Adarsh scam.
The legislative party passed a resolution against the state and condemned its action against Mr Chavan.
The budget session will begin from March 9 and hence the Leader of Opposition and party legislator Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil called a legislative party meeting at Vidhan Bhavan on Tuesday to prepare for it. Later, Mr Patil addressed the media at Gandhi Bhavan and disclosed the discussion held in the meeting.
He said that the party has also passed a resolution condemning the government’s nod to the CBI to prosecute Mr Chavan as a political vendetta. Putting the blame on the BJP, Mr Vikhe-Patil said that since the BJP had lost various elections including local body election across the nation, it was taking action against Congress leaders.
“Taking action against Mr Chavan is nothing but political vendetta and party legislators are angry with the BJP government,” he said. He also said that once the governor had denied permission to the CBI to take action against Mr Chavan, how could the state ask the governor for permission again.
Also, criticising BJP MP Kirit Somaiya, Mr Vikhe-Patil said, “How could he say what decision will be taken by the governor even before the governor declares it This shows that it is not a routine enquiry but a conspiracy against opposition leaders.”
