The Congress is considering to move the court against Maharashtra ministers who are facing corruption charges. Leader of opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil on Tuesday said that his party has sought opinion from legal experts about approaching the court as chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has not taken any action against any of the ministers. He also criticised the CM for giving a clean chit to Eknath Khadse even before setting up an inquiry against him. The CM, however, has refuted all charges.
“We have given evidence against several state ministers in corruption cases. Still no action has been taken against any of them. Therefore, we have now sought opinion of legal experts after which we will move a petition against the government on the issue of corrupt ministers,” Mr Vikhe-Patil said.
The opposition leader further alleged that water resources minister Girish Mahajan did not disclose the information about the five acres land he owns in Jalgaon. The minister has said that he will return the said land to the owner. However, Mr Vikhe-Patil said, “By admitting that he may have inadvertently forgotten to mention the land in his affidavit, the minister has accepted his guilt. He can be banned from contesting election for the six years for this.”
Mr Vikhe-Patil also accused the CM of giving a clean chit to Mr Khadse without any inquiry. “The judicial inquiry into the allegations against Mr Khadse regarding purchase of MIDC land situated at Bhosari in Pune has not even started. But two days ago while speaking in the BJP’s state executive meeting, the CM gave him the clean chit. There was a deal between Mr Khadse and BJP that he will be brought back in the Cabinet before the end of this year so that he does not break off the party. CM’s clean chit to Mr Khadse proves it,” he said.
But Mr Fadnavis said that he has not given a clean chit to Mr Khadse. “What I said in the party’s state executive is that Mr Khadse has been exonerated by the ACB and ATS in other allegations regarding Dawood Ibrahim’s phone calls and a bribery case against his associate. I also said that I will not comment on the Bhosari land issue as inquiry into it is still pending,” the CM said.
