Criticising the District Industry Centre for failing to motivate entrepreneurs, Union minister for commerce Nirmala Sitharaman said that her ministry would change the scenario with the help of the skill development ministry.
While speaking at the panel discussion on ‘Make In India: Way Forward’ held at BKC during the ‘Make In India’ week, Ms Sitharaman appealed to industrialists and investors to grab the opportunity to develop their businesses in India. However, she pointed out how District Industry Centres (DIC) and Krishi Vigyan Kendras failed to encourage entrepreneurs to start new industries. She said, “The agriculture sector has huge potential, but Krishi Vigyan Kendras have remained out of ideas. On the same line, DICs are not encouraged at all. Only papers were moving here and there. This picture should be changed.”
She further said, competition had increased post globalisation. “We must understand that each city has its own strength, capacity and potential of production. We will focus on it and will develop districts as centres of development.” She added that with the help of the skill development ministry, she would send a team to understand the need and aspirations of the investors at the district level. During the panel discussion, she said, manufacturing sectors are not open about their issues except the textile sector. They should come and discuss their issues, she appealed. She assured that commerce ministry had changed its role as facilitator.
Meanwhile, Ashok Lavasa, Union secretary to the environment department said that 954 files worth Rs 6.50 lakh crore that were stuck with the environment department had been cleared during the last 20 months and also those files stuck for wildlife clearances.
