One of the coaches of the Deccan Odyssey derailed at CST yard in early on Saturday morning, to the embarrassment of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), which had just invited businessmen to invest in the luxury train. at the Make in India Week.
The derailment did not cause any injuries or affect any train’s operations. The train was parked at platform no. 10 and businessmen were invited to invest in the Indian Railway’s luxury train experience. The train runs on popular routes like Mumbai, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Ajanta and Nashik.
A senior official revealed that the incident occurred around 2 am when the fifth coach towards the Kalyan-end derailed. “Although the derailment has not done much damage, it is true that it is sort of the pride of the Railway’s Maharashtra tours. Investors were called in to show that this was also an option for high-end railway customers,” said the official.
The train is usually parked at Wadi Bunder and was brought to CST especially for the Make in India event. Although none of the investors have reverted to Railways, railway minister Suresh Prabhu is looking into the privatisation of luxury trains as a means to save money.
