In Thane builder Suraj Parmar’s suicide case, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis refused to hand the probe over to the CBI in written answers in the Assembly.

In Thane builder Suraj Parmar’s suicide case, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis refused to hand the probe over to the CBI in written answers in the Assembly. He said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been already appointed for the case and there was no need to rope in the CBI.

BJP MLA Vinayakrao Jadhav Patil and independent MLA Bachchu Kadu raised the issue in the written question answer booklet in the Assembly on Suraj Parmar suicide case. In the case, four corporators have been charged while the MLAs asked question pertaining to NCP corporator Najib Mulla only. “If there were transactions of crores of rupees from Mulla’s account. What has the police investigated so far in the matter ” they asked.

Replying to the queries, the CM said that police was probing the matter and analysing information sought from various bank accounts. “A chargesheet has been filed in the case and a SIT is probing it further. The SIT is inquiring the financial and professional transactions by the accused in the case. There is no proposal to rope in the CBI for the probe, as the SIT is already working on it,” the CM said.

TMC corporators Sudhakar Chavan, Vikrant Chavan, Najib Mulla and Hanumant Jagdale were arrested on the charge of abetment to suicide in the Parmar case and later released on bail. Parmar, a leading builder had shot himself on October 7, 2015. His suicide note alleged that a nexus of corporators and officials was harassing him for bribes, based on which the corporators were arrested. Meanwhile, Mr Fadnavis has written to the Thane Municipal Corporation to disqualify the four corporators from the post. However, the decision by the civic body is awaited on the issue.
