Around 22 schools in Palghar district that had been deemed “illegal” and asked to shut down got a fresh lease of life till the end of the academic year, thanks to MLC Ramnath Mote intervening in the issue on the request of distraught parents whose children are studying there. The schools have been allowed to function till such time they conduct exams and declare results of the current academic year.
Throwing light on the situation, Anil Bornare of Shikshak Bharati, a teachers’ organisation, said, “Last week, the zilla parishad that governs the functioning of schools in Palghar district found 22 schools operating without proper infrastructure and flouting many norms as well. As a result, the parishad ordered immediate closure of these schools. However with the exam season underway, and the possibility of thousands of students being rendered without a school in the event of closure, Mr Mote met education minister Vinod Tawde and apprised him of the situation.”
“Parents were worried that if the schools closed prematurely and without any warning, the final exams of their children would not be conducted nor would they get a transfer certificate for moving to another school. Mr Mote convinced Mr Tawde to stall the closure order and the minister also made some notings on the letter given to him by Mr Mote,” said Mr Bornare, adding that the schools would remain functional till the exam results were declared and parents found an alternative school for their children.
