‘Clean chits without inquiry dangerous precedent’

Condemning chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for granting clean chits to tainted ministers “immediately”, city Congress president Sanjay Nirupam said the BJP-Shiv Sena government was setting a “dangerous precedent”.

Mr Nirupam said that the state Cabinet had 20 corrupt ministers, yet the chief minister had claimed they were innocent without conducting an inquiry.

Earlier, Mr Nirupam alleged that minister of state for housing Ravindra Waikar had erected an illegal gym in Goregaon on government land. In his defence, the chief minister not only said the structure was legal but also, hinted that 3,000 more such illegal structures would be protected.

Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday had alleged a Rs 525-crore fraud in Jalna Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) under the chairmanship of another Shiv Sena minister, Arjun Khotkar. Mr Khotkar met Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday and was given a clean chit by the party chief. “It seems Fadnavis is in a hurry to give clean chits to his tainted ministers without even conducting inquiry or verifying documents. In Waikar’s case, he is legalising another 3,000 illegal structures to protect him. He is blatantly promoting unauthorised structures, which is a dangerous precedent,” Mr Nirupam said.

Mr Nirupam even blamed top party leaders such as Mr Fadnavis and Mr Thackeray for protecting their corrupt ministers.
