CID may probe VJNT Corporation fraud

The Maharashtra government has decided to order a CID inquiry into the financial irregularities in Vasantrao Naik VJNT Corporation.

The Maharashtra government has decided to order a CID inquiry into the financial irregularities in Vasantrao Naik VJNT Corporation. Minister of state for social welfare Dilip Kamble on Tuesday informed the Legislative Council that the CID would probe the loans taken by submitting fake documents.

The minister was replying to supplementary queries raised on Calling Attention Notice, moved by Vinayak Mete of BJP in the Legislative Council and announced that cases would be registered under the provisions of the Organised Crime Act. The allegation is that there was misappropriation of loans worth '3.5 crore of Vasantrao Naik VJNT Corporation.

The MoS for social justice said the alleged misappropriation took place between 2011 and 2013. “The probe conducted by a retired judge revealed that the corporation’s former managing director Ravindra S. Kamble and general manager Pramod N. Chavan have been prima facie found guilty,” the minister said.

Demanding the inquiry into the loan disbursed between the year 2010 and 2013 in Beed, Mr Mete said that that the Chougule Committee, which carried out an inquiry earlier, had recommended to initiate criminal case against the culprit, but its recommendation had not been implemented so far.

Mr Kamble said that 128 cases of misappropriation were found against five to seven families from Beed and Ahmednagar district. Cheques were allegedly issued in the name of the Beed District Central Cooperative Bank manager and that too in his personal savings bank account from where they were encashed later, he said. Both Ravindra Kamble and Pramod Chavan have been suspended, the minister said.

“After final report of the judicial probe is received, the government will take strict action and file criminal cases against the officers and employees. The functioning of the corporation will not be affected by the CID probe,” the minister said.
