In a series of raids over two days against illegal activities across the city, the Mumbai Police’s social service branch (SSB) rescued 11 child beggars, busted a prostitution den and booked 12 bar girls.

Ahead of the World Day Against Child Labour, observed on June 12 every year, the commissioner of police ordered raids to be conducted to rescue child labourers and beggars. In raids conducted on Monday and Tuesday, the SSB rescued 11 children.

They were rescued from various signals/ public places/ temples in the city at areas such as Mahim, Nagpada, Worli and Tilak Nagar.

About the arrest of bar girls, an official said, “Our team carried out a raid in Andheri’s Night Lover Bar and rescued 12 bar girls and at least 13 people were booked late Monday night under the new law that protects the dignity and safety of women in hotels, restaurants, bar rooms and other establishments.”

Meanwhile, three girls were rescued after an SSB raid at Goregaon’s Oberoi mall in which one male pimp was arrested.
