After dealing with toothache, chest pain and high blood pressure, the former Maharashtra deputy chief minister and senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal has now been diagnosed with enlarged prostate and shrunken right kidney.

He will be taken to St George Dental Hospital on Monday for x-ray of his teeth and for final dental treatment. After the completion of his dental diagnosis, he will be shifted to the Arthur Road jail on the same day.

Bhujbal was taken to JJ Hospital for a CT scan on Saturday and as per the report received by St George Hospital, he is suffering from prostate problem and shrunken right-sided kidney. “The CT scan showed a prostrate problem which is quite common for a man his age. Also, his right kidney has shrunken but the left one is normal. Everything else is fine,” said Dr Rohan Sequera from the medicine department of St Geroge Hospital who is supervising his treatment.

When asked if he needs any surgery, the doctor said, “Usually if it is not too serious, it can be managed with medicine which are already given to him. Surgery is only in severe cases. The decision will be taken by his urologist.”

A medical expert who is aware of Bhujbal’s condition, however, claimed that he might need a surgery.

Dr Sequera has discharged Bhujbal but the dental head of the department has requested an x-ray be conducted of his teeth for final treatment.

He will therefore be taken to dental OPD after being discharged and will be taken there for x-ray. After the final assessment, the NCP leader would be returned to jail.

On March 31, the special court for Prevention of Money Laundering Act cases in Mumbai had extended the judicial custody of Bhujbal and Sameer Bhujbal till April 27. ED has filed two FIRs against Bhujbal and his family members under the anti-money laundering laws. This was based on FIRs filed by the state Anti-Corruption Bureau, to probe alleged irregularities in the construction of the state guesthouse ‘Maharashtra Sadan’ in Delhi and the Kalina land grabbing case in Mumbai.
