CCTV cameras at CST to help identify trespassers

A CCTV camera software, designed to detect suspicious activity such as bags being abandoned or a sudden commotion at railway stations, is in its final stage of testing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), officials have said.

The cameras will be equipped to identify trespassers at the station. This in turn will help officials monitoring the stations to notify the authorities concerned of any suspicious or illegal activity. The Central Railway has been testing the software for the past one month.

“We will take a final look at the performance of the cameras and then install them. The software will be a big help, as we will be able to keep close tabs on suspicious incidents; for example if someone has done something and is making a run for it or if someone has dumped a bag on the station for more than an hour,” said Sachin Bhalode, senior divisional security commissioner, CR.

Regarding its plans, Railway Police Force will bring install these cameras at other stations with heavy commuter footfalls.
