The police has roped in experts to ascertain the exact cause of the collapse of Babu Genu building at Dockyard Road in which 60 people died and more than 30 were injured. The task will help the police nail the real culprits. An expert from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) on Sunday inspected the spot of the building collapse. “Samples were collected from the spot. The inspection was done. Aspects such as architectural planning of the building and the components used in construction will now be checked,” said a senior police officer. So far, the police has arrested four people, on the BMC’s complaint, which alleged that some illegal structural changes were made at the ground floor of the building that resulted in the collapse. The experts will also check the documents and the plan of the building. “Scrutiny of documents would help police ascertain what was the exact plan for the ground floor of the building and if any structural changes were made,” another officer said.
