CBI may form SIT to probe Chhota Rajan’s role in Dey murder
There are 72 cases filed against Rajan and the CBI needs to form a special team for it
The CBI is likely to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) soon to probe cases registered against gangster Chhota Rajan, said sources.
There are 72 cases filed against Rajan and the CBI needs to form a special team for it. Officials from the investigative agency are planning the team and are likely to reach a decision soon.
Commenting on the matter, CBI spokesperson Devpreet Singh said, “ Our team is still working on collecting documents from Mumbai police and studying important cases. Once we finish this, we will think over forming the SIT. Right now we cannot make any announcement about it.”
In November, the state government had decided to transfer all cases registered against gangster Rajan in the city to the CBI after a high-level meeting was called by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
After two months of being handed over the cases, the CBI has filed the first case against Rajan for the murder of journalist J. Dey.
It was in January 7 that the CBI took over the investigation and registered an FIR to probe Rajan’s role in the killing.
The FIR was registered under IPC sections 302 (Murder) and 34 (Common intention), along with the Arms Act, in the 2011 murder case. The gangster was produced in court through video conference.
