CBI arrests 4 in connection with 2 bribery cases

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a deputy general manager and an engineer of Hindustan Insecticides Ltd, and a senior section engineer of Central Railway (CR) and a sub-inspector

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a deputy general manager and an engineer of Hindustan Insecticides Ltd, and a senior section engineer of Central Railway (CR) and a sub-inspector of RPF in two separate cases of bribery on Monday.

In one case, the CBI on Monday arrested a deputy general manager (finance & accounts) and an engineer/ manager of Hindustan Insecticides Ltd., Rasayani, Panvel, District Raigad (Maharashtra) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant. HIL is a Government of India enterprise, under the department of chemicals and petrochemicals, ministry of chemicals & fertilisers, Government of India. Sources said a CBI team got a tip-off about the deputy general manager’s activities after which they laid a trap. A private contractor had completed his work but the deputy general manager (finance & accounts) and engineer/ manager of HIL did not release his payment. They kept him waiting for a year after which they demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from him for release of his payment.

The frustrated contractor later informed CBI officials about the same and both accused were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 as first installment. Later, searches were conducted at the residence and office of both accused and incriminating documents related to the case and certain property documents were recovered. Both arrested accused are being produced today in the competent Court, Alibaug (Maharashtra), said CBI officials.

In the other case, CBI arrested a senior section engineer, Manmad, CR, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant.

Sources said the complainant was working in the Railway Protection Force itself and wanted a transfer to Manmad for personal reasons. He alleged that the senior RPF officer, Manmad, CR, demanded Rs 20,000 from him for his transfer from Nashik to Manmad. CBI laid a trap and caught red handed the Senior Section Engineer for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 as first half payment. The house of the accused was searched leading to the recovery of Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and incriminating documents, said CBI officials.
