CAT results declared amid chaos, anxiety

The much-awaited Common Aptitude Test (CAT) 2015 results declared on Friday caused a lot of confusion and anxiety to students as the official website was not accessible for the better part of the day

The much-awaited Common Aptitude Test (CAT) 2015 results declared on Friday caused a lot of confusion and anxiety to students as the official website was not accessible for the better part of the day and results were received through SMS on their registered mobile numbers and emails. According to sources from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, which conducted the exams on November 29, 2015 and declared the results, there were some technical issues with the website, due to which results had to be sent individually to the students.

According to a CAT aspirant from TIME, a private coaching institute, it was surprising to receive the exam percentile on the mobile phone. “We had been anticipating the results to be declared on the official website and hence when I received a message giving me the percentile I was surprised and confused as to the validity of the message. The validity was confirmed after some friends said they had received their percentile scores through SMS too,” said the student. The student added that when they tried accessing their scores through the website, they were unable to do so.

Sources said that rumours had been doing the rounds that the official website had been hacked and after the Institute realised that the scores were being sent to students, it decided to send out the same on the registered mobile numbers and emails of the students. In all, 1.8 lakh students appeared for the CAT, which is a prerequisite for admission to various courses being offered at the 13 existing and six proposed IIMs across the country. The exam was conducted on November 29 at 650 testing sites in 136 test cities. Officials from IIM-Ahmedabad were not reachable for comment.
