A well-known builder of the Swaraj Group, Raj Kandhari (44), tried to commit suicide in his house on Monday afternoon. According to police sources Kandhari shot himself on the right side of his head with a .32 revolver on Monday afternoon. Later he was admitted to MGM Hospital in Vashi, where he was critical till the time of going to press. Commenting on his condition, sources from the hospital said that Kandhari is brain dead but his heart is beating and doctors have kept him under observation in the ICU. The preliminary police inquiry has revealed that Kandhari had been depressed for a long time over money issues.
An official informed The Asian Age that police found a note in Hindi from Kandhari’s room that read, “Zindagi bahut imtehaan leti hai aur zindagi mei bahut utar chadhav aate hai” (Life takes many exams and there are several ups and downs in life). A friend of Kandhari informed this newspaper that for the last ten days he was very disturbed and thinking of committing suicide. Kandhari had tried to commit suicide twice in different ways, stated his friend. Kandhari’s wife was in Narayan Gaon with their two kids at the time of the incident.
Kandhari was in his house with two maids, mother, sister and her husband. He stays on the 11th floor of the Uday Raj society in Sanpada area of Navi Mumbai.
In the afternoon Kandhari returned home to have food with his family and went to his bedroom where he shot himself. Later when the maid went to his room around 2.30 pm when she found her employer lying on the floor in a pool of blood. The bullet had hit the cupboard and wall after passing through Kandhari’s head, said the police.
