Panthnagar police has arrested a 23-year-old carpenter from Bhadohi village in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly robbing a senior citizen and eventually causing his death.
On March 8, Rajan Jaiswal allegedly fought with Keval Ramani (93), who resides at Sindhu Wadi Society in Ghatkopar, over Rs 1,000 which was the balance due from Ramani for work done by Jaiswal on February 15 this year. However, when Jaiswal visited Ramani on February 18 to demand the remaining amount, Ramani refused to pay up and the two got into a heated argument.
The police said Jaiswal pushed the deceased on his chest and the latter fell on the ground.
Thereafter, Jaiswal robbed Ramani of his mobile phone and Rs 1,800 in cash and fled from the spot without informing anyone, the police said.
Later, Ramani’s daughter-in-law found him in an unconscious state but he was still breathing.
During his treatment, Ramani was declared dead. Ghatkopar police formed a special team to nab the accused.
Panthnagar police came to know that Jaiswal, hailing from Bhadohi, had reached his native place. They nabbed him on Wednesday and brought him to the city. Jaiswal confessed his crime.
