Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said no one can stop Bhartiya Janata Party from coming to power in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, but stopped short of declaring the outfit will snap its ties with ally Shiv Sena in the upcoming BMC election due in January next year. However, reappointed city president of the party Ashish Shelar said that BJP has to fight for ‘shat-pratishat’ (hundred per cent) power at the civic body.

Before addressing the gathering of party cadre, Mr Fadnavis felicitated Mr Shelar over his reappointment as the party’s city president for the next two years. Though Mr Fadnavis did not speak openly, a BJP insider claimed that it is a clear indication that BJP in all probability is likely to snap its electoral ties with the Sena in the civic polls.

Asking the party cadre to get ready to win the 2017 BMC elections, Mr Fadnavis said Mr Shelar has been entrusted with an important assignment. The CM said the face of the city has to be transformed and expressed resolve that it would be transformed by the 2019 assembly polls. He added that there is vast difference between BJP and other political parties.

Stating that survey work for providing permanent houses to poor people in Mumbai is on, Mr Fadnavis alleged that some political parties used slum dwellers for vote bank politics. The CM said the government is planning to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Mumbai-Nhava Sheva Trans-Harbour link in October this year. He also pointed out that the Centre has promptly issued eight clearances for the proposed new airport at Navi Mumbai.
