Though former BJP minister Eknath Khadse had to resign from his post as revenue minister owing to corruption allegations, he is likely to get some relief from charges that he was in touch with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The home department’s probe has not found anything significant in the case.
A senior home department officials said on Friday that the investigation in the alleged calls made to Mr Khadse is almost over. “A final report is likely to be tabled before the government in a week’s time. The ATS has received all the call data records for the months regarding which allegations were made and the investigation is going on. However, so far nothing significant has come out of the investigations into the call data records,” the official said.
Hacker Manish Bhangale and later Aam Admi Party leader Preeti Sharma Menon alleged that Mr Khadse received calls from a Karachi-based landline number, which is believed to be that of fugitive underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim. The ATS has also summoned Mr Bhangale for inquiry. However, he has refused to cooperate with the police. The ATS sources also confirmed that nothing significant has come out of the investigations so far.
The Mumbai police crime branch had immediately given a clean chit to Mr Khadse in the matter. But, the Opposition made a hue and cry as Mr Khadse was given a clean chit without an inquiry or probe. The case was taken over by the ATS later.
The official said that the ATS is expected to submit a status report shortly after probing all the stakeholders. Meanwhile, Mr Bhangale has moved the Bombay high court seeking a CBI probe into the case. His petition is scheduled for a June 14 hearing.
