In a suspected case of a suicide, Amit Bhatia, director of Mohan Group of Developers, was found lying on the railway tracks between Ambernath and Badlapur stations around 1 am on Sunday.

Sources said that the 30-year-old left his house in Ulhasnagar to attend a function and the police is probing why he stopped near the railway crossing that has been non-operational for many years.

“Bhatia was hit by a train and his body was found near the railway track of Badlapur’s Belwali Phata. The motorman of Kolkata-bound Duronto Express informed Kalyan GRP officials about the body who informed us about it,” said an officer from Kalyan GRP police. Bhatia’s Honda city car was found parked near the railway crossing.

Government railway police DCP Rupali Ambure said, “Raj Bhatia, Amit’s uncle who took care of him since his childhood received an SMS from Amit’s number around 11 pm stating he was committing suicide and telling the uncle to take care of his child and wife.” He further added, “On the basis of the message we can ascertain for now that it is a case of suicide, but further investigations are on. We are also trying to find the motorman of the train that hit Bhatia. We are working on identifying the train now.”

One of Bhatia’s colleagues said, “Bhatia was one of the most active directors in Mohan group. He would solely handle all major projects of the group in Badlapur, Ambernath and Kalyan. He was like a dashing, rough and tough person while he handled business deals.”

According to his family, he was not facing any financial problems and had plans to shift to his new house that he had taken up from among the Mohan group projects. Also, the family said that many people were jealous of Bhatia’s success.
