Three of the top training institutes for civil services exams in Delhi can be assured of getting around 400-500 candidates from Maharashtra every year. The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to sponsor civil services aspirants from Maharashtra so that the state’s representation in the bureaucracy increases.
The government will choose top three training institutes in Delhi, where candidates from Maharashtra can enroll and the government will pay their fees. The candidates who have cleared the main exam, but failed to clear the interviews will be eligible for the scheme. They will also get Rs 10,000 per month stipend from the time they apply for the preliminary exam till the interview in their next attempt. Civil services exams are held in three stages — preliminary, main and interview.
An official from the CMO said, “There are about 400-500 candidates from Maharashtra every year who clear the main exam but fail to clear the interviews. In order to encourage such candidates to continue their efforts to clear the civil service exams, the government has taken the decision to provide them monetary help.”
As per the Cabinet’s decision, the candidates who are domiciles of Maharashtra and cleared the main exam at least once in three years, will get monetary assistance from the state. However, they will have to study at one of the three institutes selected by the state government. “All candidates will be eligible to get benefit of the scheme only once,” the official said. When asked whether the scheme will not benefit particular private training institutes, the official said, “The idea is to increase Maharashtra’s representation in civil services. The major institutes for civil services are in Delhi and therefore the government has taken the decision only in the interest of the candidates.”
