Book glorifiers of Nathuram Godse: PIL
A former journalist turned social activist on Monday filed public interest litigation (PIL) in the Bombay high court seeking a direction to the government of Maharashtra to register an offence against those who have launched a website “glorifying” Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse.
Ketan Tirodkar in his petition has requested the court to directed the additional chief secretary of the home department to register an offence under relevant section of the Indian Penal Code including Section 121A (waging war against the government of India). The petition has requested action against “concern persons.”
The petitioner has also prayed that action should be taken against concerned police officers because he had e-mailed his complaint about the same but the police did not take any action.
Mr Tirodkar, in his petition has said that he came to know from a news article about a website has been launched glorifying Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi. He then searched on Internet and discovered a website, http://www.menathuramgodse.com. According to the petition, the home page of this website claims to reveal the true account of “why he (Godse) killed Gandhi”.
According to the PIL, the act of launching such a website amounts to committing an offence and urged that action should be taken against those who had launched the website. The petitioner said that he pointed out to police that contact page (of the website) reflects the address of Shivaji Nagar, Pune, of one Nana Godse but still no action has been taken. The PIL is expected to come up for hearing in due course.
