The Bombay high court has started weeding duplicate registrations of advocates and law firms from its database. The officials say that this is being done to streamline a process that gives mobile and email updates to the advocates and firms regarding the status of their cases and the progress of their documents.
According to officials, the initiative launched by the court was started under the national information commission for digitisation of all administrative work in all government and judicial work. Hence, the court had asked lawyers and law firms to register themselves and their mobile numbers for easy communication and updates on judicial processes.
“Under this process, the court intends to reduce unnecessary adjournment of matters for the want of the presence of advocates of the concerned parties at the time of hearing by sending the advocates on-record intimation about the hearing in advance via SMS,” an official said.
