Bombay High Court wants 1843 noise meters before festival
The Bombay high court told the state government on Monday that all the 1,843 noise decibel measurement meters should be purchased before the festival season starts.
The Bombay high court told the state government on Monday that all the 1,843 noise decibel measurement meters should be purchased before the festival season starts. The court also directed the state to file an affidavit giving time-bound schedule to buy the necessary equipment.
The bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice A.A. Sayed was hearing a PIL filed by Thane-based Dr Mahesh Bedekar, regarding noise pollution violation that takes place during the festival season.
“Before the festival season begins, we want all the police stations to get the required noise meters,” said Justice Oka, explaining the motive of the order.
On January 2016, the court had directed state to procure 1,843 noise decibel measurement meters for all the police stations of Maharashtra. On Monday, the state government said in the court that it has already issued tender and placed work order to purchase all these meters. State also assured that 50 per cent of the meters are expected to arrive before July 30 and the remaining half can be expected by August 30.
However, while reading the document submitted by the state in the court, the court came to know that nowhere in the document was there a mention of the time limit of the proposed purchases of noise meter.
